SETTING
Since the Gate Disaster in 2021, in which a protype Astral Gate exploded, taking out most of the Earth's moon, our planet has become almost uninhabitable. Fortunately, with the development of successful Astral Gates and terraforming technology, mankind was able to move to the stars, colonizing planets that would normally be uninhabitable or too far away. Of the eight planets in our Solar System, five are inhabitable (or their moons are) as well as a few asteroids.
Venus is the first, as it is large and stable enough to support life with relative ease. Floating islands of special plants filter Venus' atmosphere which allows the planet to be populated similar to Earth, though those plants also, on rare occasions lead to ill effects on the inhabitants, including, but not limited to, blindness.
Mars is another, and is known for being very city-like. Unlike Venus, however, terraforming could not be done on the entire planet, as it does not have a magnetosphere, and so cities are built in the planet's large craters, which are fitted with artificial atmospheres.
Jupiter and Saturn are gaseous planets, that don't have a stable crust, however, both of them have moons large enough to terraform. Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto around Jupiter, to name a few, have been colonized to varying degrees. Saturn's largest moon Titan was the sight of a war not to many years ago, but the desert-like satellite seems to be long forgotten now, except for the occasional vagabond.
And finally, Earth is still a place where people carry on their daily lives. Though pieces of the moon still rain down every day, and most cities are in ruins, the people of Earth seem to pull together and form a community even under the harsh conditions. It's similar to a merchant town now. Also, the use of computers and the internet has skyrocketed on this planet, as well as some user's capability for hacking. Especially into the abandoned satellites still orbiting Earth.
Watching over all five planets is the ISSP, or the Inter-Solar System Police, but when they can't bring someone in, the word goes out to all the bounty hunters cruising out in space...
